What We Treat

Scar pain and scar tissue release in Midland.

The incision healed and the tissue underneath it never moved again. Now it pulls when you reach, twist or take a deep breath. Restriction like that responds well to hands-on work.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like you since it healed?

  • The incision looks fine and something underneath it still pulls when you reach
  • You feel a tug on one side every time you take a deep breath
  • Numb through the middle of it, tender all the way around the edge
  • You still cannot lie on that side, long after everything was supposed to be healed
  • Twisting back for the seatbelt catches somewhere it never used to
  • Everyone says the repair went great, and you still do not move the way you did

Why It Happens

The skin healed. The layers underneath got stuck.

Scar tissue is how the body patches itself, and it is not fussy about direction. The new fibers lay down in a dense, disorganized mat instead of the tidy lines healthy tissue uses. That mat can glue together layers that are built to slide over each other: skin to fascia, fascia to muscle. So the scar itself feels tight, and it also pulls on everything attached to it. That is how a scar on your abdomen turns into back pain, and how a shoulder repair turns into a rib that will not expand.

The same thing happens after any healed injury: a knee surgery, an appendectomy, a C-section, a burn, a deep cut. The tissue is not the enemy. The missing glide is. Hands-on manual therapy and IASTM, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, work directly on that glide, and then we retrain the motion you lost so the change holds. We are not here to change how your scar looks. We are here to give the tissue around it room to move again.

The Honest Truth

Stuck tissue does not loosen up on its own.

If you keep waiting

  • The pull keeps spreading, and the ache shows up further from the scar than it started
  • You build your whole day around working around it: one sleeping side, one way to reach
  • The joint nearby loses motion, and the muscles around it stop pulling their weight

If you start this week

  • You find out what the scar is actually pulling on, and what that pull is costing you
  • Hands-on release starts the same visit, at a pressure you control
  • A plan with an endpoint, plus the home work that keeps the tissue moving

Nobody regrets starting too early. You already got through the surgery. This part is a lot smaller than that.

How We Fix It

The same four phases. Built for tissue that stopped sliding.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here is what the four phases look like when a scar is doing the pulling.

Starts visit one

Pain

Calm a guarded area down.

Gentle manual therapy, and cupping where it helps, settle a tender, protective area so it can tolerate being worked on at all.

Once the pain settles

Prime

Get the glide back.

Manual therapy and IASTM work straight at the restriction, layer by layer, until the tissue moves on the tissue underneath it again.

Once it moves freely again

Perform

Load it so the gain sticks.

New range holds when you use it. We strengthen through the motion you just got back, in the movements you quietly stopped doing.

Before you are cleared

Prevent

Keep the tissue moving.

You go home with a simple way to work the area yourself, and a clear picture of what your normal is now. That is the endpoint, not a standing appointment.

I was doing my regular appointment to get my shoulder repair therapy and about 20 minutes in Jordan untied or untangled something that had caused pain and problems breathing for the last 30 years or so… I honestly can’t give a better explanation of how much better I feel!!

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for scar pain.

No referral, because Texas does not require a physician referral to see a physical therapist. If you are still inside the healing window your surgeon gave you, we want their clearance and we will work with it. Imaging is rarely the missing piece here, because a scan cannot show whether tissue layers slide on each other. A hands-on assessment can, and that is where we start.

It should feel like firm, working pressure, and we tell you what to expect before we touch anything. The tools sound more intense than they are, the dose stays under your control, and anything sharp gets changed rather than pushed through. Once the wound itself is healed, movement is safe and it is how the new glide gets kept. You are one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit, so the person who worked on it last time is the person adjusting it this time. Nothing here is about how the scar looks. It is about what the tissue underneath it can do.

It depends on how old the restriction is, how deep it goes, and how much motion you lost around it, so you get a real answer at your evaluation instead of a number off a web page. Your plan runs the four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent, and you will always know which phase you are in and what is left. Even a scar that has been stuck for years can change. Either way you get a plan with an endpoint, not a standing appointment.
