We map where the tissue catches.
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization: a smooth tool that finds restriction your hands skate over, especially around old scars and stubborn tendons.
What It Is
What you want back is glide. The elbow that grabs at one angle, the scar that pulls when you reach, the tendon that has been sore for a year: what they share is tissue that stopped sliding on the tissue next to it.
IASTM stands for instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. Your therapist works along the muscle and tendon with a smooth, contoured tool. The edge is blunt, shaped to read texture rather than to cut. Hands are excellent at broad work and can skate right over one small dense restriction. The tool finds it, then works it one direction at a time.
It earns its keep where things are stubborn: around an old surgical scar, along a tendon that has been irritated for months, on the forearm or the shin where there is not much to grab. Then you move it, because the point is never the tool. The point is what you can do afterward.
Smooth tool, nothing sharp
What It Helps
If it catches at one angle and feels fine at every other, restriction is a good place to start looking.

Questions, Answered
It is firm. Over the restricted spot it can feel like a deep scrape, and that spot is usually the one you already knew about. It should read as pressure you can breathe through, never pain you have to brace against, and we change what we are doing the moment you say so. Some redness afterward is normal and settles on its own. The tool is smooth and blunt: nothing cuts, nothing breaks the skin.
No referral needed. Texas has direct access, so you can be seen here without going to a doctor first. Coverage depends on your plan, so we run a free benefits check and tell you what yours looks like before you owe anything. We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, 90 Degree Benefit, UMR and Curative, and we see out-of-network and self-pay patients too.
You will not have to guess. The evaluation gives you a plan with an endpoint: what is wrong, roughly how long it takes, and what has to change before you are done. IASTM is one tool inside that plan, so it stays while it is earning its place and stops when it is not. The goal is to get to the root of it, not to keep you on a schedule.
